Stiftung Stadtkultur

After the departure of the Soviet military in 1994, the building passed into the possession of the Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Lichtenberg mbH (today part of the HOWOGE) that had its offices in the former residential building at Treskowallee 109/111. In 2008 the HOWOGE refurbished and rented out part of the building on a long-term basis to, among others, the Music School of the district of Lichtenberg. Since then, the stage tower, the auditorium and the lobby have remained unused. The HOWOGE considered attempts to revive the building for cultural and commercial purposes, but the plans were discarded again for various reasons. Only after the HOWOGE founded the Stiftung Stadtkultur and transferred the building to the property of the foundation has the plan gained traction.
