Quarteera “Spirit Days”: Queer Shorts & Welcome to the USA

Welcome to the Quarteera Spirit Days. We start with 3 short films on queer feminism, because queer women often face double discrimination.

“Böse Tochter” by Svetlana Sigalaeva (Russia, 2020, 25 min.) on the first yet momentous love of two schoolgirls

“FRAUEN*. Wofür wir kämpfen” documentary by Victoria Guivik (Ukraine, 2020, 30 min.) on lesbians engaged in the global struggle for human rights

“Glückliche Jahre” documentary by Svitlana Shimko and Galina Yarmanova (Ukraine 2018, 8 min.) on homosexual women in the late Soviet Union who looked for love outside of marriage

Inhaltsspalte Open Air Kino: Queerfeministisches Kurzfilmprogramm (OmU), Johannes Fest Platz, Berlin, 23 September 2021

Thereafter we will screen the acclaimed movie “Welcome to the USA” by Kazakh filmmaker Assel Aushakimova.

Almaty, Kazakhstan. 36-year-old Aliya is granted a Green Card for the USA with her first try. Before starting her new life in New York, she first has to tell her loved ones about her luck. Will she find the courage to leave her hometown, or will she stay and see her country with new eyes?

The film evening will take place as part of the “Spirit Days” developed for KAHO by Quarteera, a non-profit LGBT+ organization for Russian-speaking people in Germany.

Please inform yourself about our current admission and hygiene rules before the event.
